About Mahika

A streetwear brand. Created by a Filipina. Made for All.

About Mer

At her core, Mer is a Creative. Born in Pampanga, Philippines, Mer moved to Oregon, USA in the 2000s and was challenged in ways she'd never experienced before. She found her footing through anything creative, teaching herself to draw, play the guitar, and take photos. In 2024, she started Mahika, a brand rooted in heritage, legacy, and creativity.

Heritage
She's Filipina. Representing a Filipina brand. Her Pinoy roots inspired the Tagolog name Mahika and now influence the streetwear style of Mahika's products. Photographs of Mer's home region in the Philippines are often used in her designs, showcasing the country's mountains, rice farms, and jungles. Mer's heritage keeps her grounded, and her family's legacy drives her forward.

Legacy
Family is incredibly important in Filipino culture, and Mer is no outlier. She works every day to build a better life for her family, like her mother, Mercy, did for her. Mer's favorite memories of Mercy involve food and music; Mercy would often play the band Chicago on cassette tapes and dance around the kitchen, cooking food for family and friends. And though Mercy has since danced her way to the next life, Mer keeps her legacy alive by including Mercy's signature on every single product she makes. When Mer sees someone wearing the Mahika brand, she's proud to know that her mother's legacy will live on.

Creativity
Mer used her very first paycheck to buy a guitar. Music became her outlet as she adjusted to life in the US. Before that, she loved to draw and dreamed of becoming a graphic designer. When her mom got sick, she picked up a camera and began taking photos. Creativity has always given Mer purpose, and now it provides the opportunity to build her brand. She creates her own designs, often incorporating meaningful song lyrics and photographs. She takes photos of her friends modeling Mahika products, editing and publishing these on her website and social media. Self-made and independently owned, Mahika embodies Mer, Mercy, and a bit of Filipino magic.
